Case Study: Website Update and Redesign for a Growing Non-profit Organization

Goal: Create a beautifully designed site for a growing nonprofit organization to self-manage that reflects their vision and upcoming featured programming.

Overview

An Infinite Mind (AIM) was formed out of a need for accurate information on Dissociative Identity Disorders. Many non-profit organizations rely heavily on volunteers which left their website inconsistently maintained.  Their goal was to create an easy to manage and modular site for a growing nonprofit organization which they could self manage, that reflected new branding and programs.

Our project began working with key stakeholders to collect assets, design inspiration and to determine which website platform would best serve their needs.

Approach

eGuide’s approach to our projects begins with an analysis of what is and isn’t working, creating a project plan and followed by the implementation stage.

Discovery:  AIM provided their assets from the existing site as well as their design and inspiration directives.  eGuide then used a combined meeting with Jaime, the Executive Director and key board members to gain an understanding of what elements of the design were most important, and what goals the executive leadership would like to achieve with the website redesign. Following the meeting eGuide had a clear understanding of what assets to use and what direction to take.

Branding: To allow for input and feedback, eGuide created two brand books that explored the application of the color scheme, use of imagery, and other design elements. Having two versions of the same concepts allowed the AIM’s executive leadership team to easily identify what elements and versions resonated with them most. eGuide allowed for a round of revisions to finalize the brand book to ensure that the end product would be something that met AIM’s goals for the updated site moving into the future.

Site Map & Working Wireframes: Using a tool called LucidSpark, eGuide was able to build a collaborative work environment that allowed for a workshop on both the site map and a wireframe of the home page. Through a guided conversation with key stakeholders, eGuide was able to solidify the core navigation of the site, and discuss some key page layouts.

Development: Collaboratively eGuide and AIM decided on Squarespace as the website host and began the update by developing the top pages of the site.  eGuide allowed for one round of review and feedback to ensure that the design elements were reflective of the brand book and matched the AIM’s expectations. With the feedback from the client incorporated, it was easy to move through the remainder of the site matching the design elements from the approved pages.

Refinement + SEO: Quality review for the site was done both by the eGuide Team and the AIM Executive Leadership Team to ensure that all links, navigation, and pages were accurate before going live. This allowed for one last round of “polishing” audits that gave the organization full confidence in the design. While completing final refinement updates, eGuide also ensured that all elements of SEO were created including page titles, meta descriptions, and Alt Image Text. Once the site was ready to launch, eGuide circulated the new pages into the live site and resubmitted the sitemap to Google Search Console for indexing.

Conclusion

As An Infinite Mind continues to grow both their national and international presence, their digital footprint now reflects the amazing work that the organization is doing. eGuide’s role in updating the site to match best practices in 2022 while also converting the site into a website editor that the organization can self-manage, will help continue to drive the mission of the organization.
