Case Study: Flossmoor Public Library

eGuide Tech Allies + Flossmoor Public Library + Video Support

When The Flossmoor Public Library received a grant to help seniors bridge the technology gap, they partnered with eGuide to create training videos and guides for frequently requested tasks.

Working with Flossmoor Public Library

The Flossmoor Public Library in Flossmoor, IL received a grant to help seniors bridge the technology gap. A portion of that grant was dedicated to purchasing 10 iPads for library patrons to access. In addition to the iPads, the library wanted to provide easy-to-follow training videos and guides to answer commonly asked questions. eGuide was brought on to partner with the library to produce  4 videos and “e-guides” that would impact how library patrons were able to connect to family and friends using the iPads.

The eGuide Tech Allies Approach

Project Scope & Financial Estimate

Jamie Paicely, Library Director, provided the topics of the video based on common requests from library patrons. The topics included the following:

  • How to join a Zoom Meeting

  • How to Join a Skype Call

  • How to Create a Yahoo Email Address

  • How to Search The Internet

The videos were to be created in a way that would clearly outline the necessary steps to those who were not “tech savvy”, and the guides to work in supplement with the videos for additional support. Based on an hourly estimate, eGuide rendered a scope of work that encompassed the video creation and refinement process, and the guide creation steps.

Recording & Approval

Before recording, eGuide collected one of the library’s iPads to ensure that the technology looked the same in the videos as it did for library patrons. To ensure the quality of the videos matched the expectation, eGuide then recorded the first video “How To Join a Zoom Meeting” and created the first guide to share with the client before completing the remaining scope.

Process & Deliverables

Through the course of 3.5 weeks, eGuide recorded, edited, and refined each of the videos and guides. All videos were uploaded to an unlisted link on Youtube and both the MP4 files and Youtube links along with PDFs of the guides were shared with the Library at the conclusion of the project.

Conclusion

With these videos and guides, library patrons will be able to receive an guided introduction to using an iPad, connecting with friends and family members, and transferring some of those same skills into personally owned devices. Understanding the learning process, the guides can act as a quick refresher to reference back to, while supporting memory retention.

I think they (videos & guides) are great. The videos are very clear and easy to follow and the handouts compliment the videos nicely. I am very pleased with the work.
— Jamie L. Paicely Library Director, Flossmoor Public LIbrary
