Google’s Infamous Cloud & GSuite

Google’s Infamous Cloud & GSuite

What is the cloud?

By eGuide's Omar Hutchens

It’s 2018 and people are still not sure what it is. To put it short, it’s a hard drive in the sky. A remote location that has your data that you can access from anywhere ( depending on the service and the application you are using). That’s it! Nothing complicated and no IT jargon that is hard to understand. That being said, let’s talk about services...

Techweek Chicago 2017

An evening with CEO of Tech Week: Amanda Signorelli

Amanda Signorelli, CEO Techweek

Amanda Signorelli, CEO Techweek

Amanda strikes me as a person who cleaned house on the debate team in high school. Extremely poised, well-spoken, realistic and quick to answer, this new CEO of Techweek could talk circles around anyone on what seemed to be any topic thrown her way.

Amanda grew up in Vegas, attended Washington University in St. Louis, took a job selling booths for a trade show at a venture capital firm, and climbed her way up to CEO all before the age of 30.

To be able to sit in an intimate setting for some Q&A with this incredible woman, was an absolute honor. The evening was hosted by Ivy: The Social University at PianoForte Studios in Chicago.

The Takeaways:

  • There is most likely a tech bubble. People are using venture capital, manipulating the numbers on paper, but if you look behind the numbers of some of these big tech start ups, there is no possibility for long term profitability
  • The idea of tech is changing -- what used to be systems, wires, servers, and electronics, is now becoming something used for everyday by everyone.
  • When expanding into other markets, the on the ground research -- getting to know the community before launching, is vital. Success comes from being able to rely on community advocates to add credibility to your cause.
  • Tech is still a male driven industry, and it may be partly because a lot of the teachers are male. Increasing the amount of female teachers in tech, could allow female students to identify better with instructors.
  • Sometimes venture capital is not the answer. Venture capital does not care about the business it cares about the results. It's up to the business owner(s) to achieve the results even if those results are way beyond reach.

Customize your iPhone Dictionary -- #TechTipTuesday

You can text even faster!

Living in the setting of your iPhone is a little known tool that can prompt a full sentence at the click of a few letters.

Turn OMW into "On my Way" or TTYL into "Talk to you later" at a click of a button. What ever commonly used phrase you need can be programed in seconds.

This works well for app names as well!

Excited to tell your friends about the latest app, but it seems to be missing a vowel, so your phone always corrects it to something different? The customizable dictionary is a perfect solution for this as well.

Hidden iPhone Level -- #TechTipTuesday

Don't ever be without a level again!

Picture this -- you want to hang a shelf in your bathroom. There's a perfect spot over the toilet, and you've been meaning to put a shelf there since you've moved in. You hop on Amazon and buy what you think will work really well for the space and then set out to hang it.

Half way through you realize that you could really use a level. Yes, the shelf came with one of those templates to tape to the wall so that you know where to put the anchors, but how you don't know if you've taped it to the wall level, and when you look at it form the bathroom door it looks really crooked.

Whip out your iPhone!

Not to fear -- located in your iPhone is a level that can help you out in a pinch. Hidden in the compass app, the level works both flat against a surface or on an edge. Perfect to help you hang!

Control Your Calendar -- #TechTipTuesday

Are you getting duplicate calendar notifications?

It's not un-common, especially if you are using gmail calendars, to have duplicate notifications for upcoming meetings. An easy update can fix this issue.

By opening your calendars and un-checking the duplicate calendars you will only display one version of the same event, and in-turn only get one notification.

Help! My iPhone is Frozen - #TechTipTuesday

Sometimes Restarting is the Only Option

Has your phone ever frozen? This typically happens when there's a glitch in an app that causes the screen to freeze. Depending on the severity of the error the display may not respond to touch, to pressing the home key, or in the most extreme cases, even responding to the power button.

If and when this happens to you a force restart is the best option.
