Google’s Infamous Cloud & GSuite

Google’s Infamous Cloud & GSuite

What is the cloud?

By eGuide's Omar Hutchens

It’s 2018 and people are still not sure what it is. To put it short, it’s a hard drive in the sky. A remote location that has your data that you can access from anywhere ( depending on the service and the application you are using). That’s it! Nothing complicated and no IT jargon that is hard to understand. That being said, let’s talk about services...

What does a busy day look for you?

By Omar Hutchens

The second we wake up, and before we even decide to get out of bed we instinctively look at the clock. Time is a driver in our lives and getting the things on our agenda done is very important. Staying on top of that agenda is difficult when there are many moving parts with a small business or busy life...

Google Chrome - Activating Your Home Button

Cracking the Chrome Code

Sometimes settings in Google's Chrome Browser are a little less than intuitive. Say you want a home button, something that used to be standard on all browsers. Well on Chrome it's a little hidden depending on how your account is set up.

Chrome Home Button - White Paper

We've created a white paper to walk you through the steps of activating your home button, and also assigning a specific website to open upon clicking. The directions are below, and you can also download the white paper HERE

  1. Click the setting button at the top of your chrome browser (three dots on top of each other at upper right hand side beneath your user name)
  2. Click Settings within the drop down menu
  3. Scroll to Appearance in the new page that appears
  4. Enable the home button
  5. Click on the second option
  6. Type in the link you would like to open when the home button is clicked
  7. Click the home button to test the link

Techweek Chicago 2017

An evening with CEO of Tech Week: Amanda Signorelli

Amanda Signorelli, CEO Techweek

Amanda Signorelli, CEO Techweek

Amanda strikes me as a person who cleaned house on the debate team in high school. Extremely poised, well-spoken, realistic and quick to answer, this new CEO of Techweek could talk circles around anyone on what seemed to be any topic thrown her way.

Amanda grew up in Vegas, attended Washington University in St. Louis, took a job selling booths for a trade show at a venture capital firm, and climbed her way up to CEO all before the age of 30.

To be able to sit in an intimate setting for some Q&A with this incredible woman, was an absolute honor. The evening was hosted by Ivy: The Social University at PianoForte Studios in Chicago.

The Takeaways:

  • There is most likely a tech bubble. People are using venture capital, manipulating the numbers on paper, but if you look behind the numbers of some of these big tech start ups, there is no possibility for long term profitability
  • The idea of tech is changing -- what used to be systems, wires, servers, and electronics, is now becoming something used for everyday by everyone.
  • When expanding into other markets, the on the ground research -- getting to know the community before launching, is vital. Success comes from being able to rely on community advocates to add credibility to your cause.
  • Tech is still a male driven industry, and it may be partly because a lot of the teachers are male. Increasing the amount of female teachers in tech, could allow female students to identify better with instructors.
  • Sometimes venture capital is not the answer. Venture capital does not care about the business it cares about the results. It's up to the business owner(s) to achieve the results even if those results are way beyond reach.

Chicago Auto Show 2017 | Chevy Bolt EV

One year away from Driverless Technology it seems...

This Chicago Auto Show 2017 seems to be one year away from actualizing game changing technology that will shape the way we drive.

With concept cars that are still toting electric capabilities, longer driving times, and faster charging times, it was the Chevy Bolt EV that alluded to the next chapter of driving.

A video of a Chevy Bolt EV equipped with Cruise Automation Software, a GM owned driverless technology, was on display navigating the streets of San Francisco. In the video you can see a drivers hands never touch the wheel as the car makes complex stops, turns, and even crosses on coming traffic.

According to an ABC report, General Motors President Dan Ammann stated, "The business is changing and we want to lead this change "

What the car has to offer

The Bolt EV has other advancements that make it an ideal choice for driverless technology:

  • Completely Electric
  • Driving capabilities of over 200 miles on a single charge
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility
  • Bluetooth
  • Rear camera mirror
  • 4G LTE hotspot
  • Infotainment system
  • 10.2-inch touchscreen display
  • 360-degree camera
  • Navigation system
  • Remote start

Whether or not we will ever see flying cars, this game changing technology will have an impact on how we treat our travel in years to come.

iPhone's Control Panel Helps You Navigate Efficiently

Many people know the iPhone Control Panel for the flashlight and airplane mode feature. But do you know this is where you can quickly set a timer for 1 minute? Or lock the orientation of your device's screen.

The iPhone Control Panel has continued to evolve along with the OS for iPhone's and iPads. On This week's eGuide Tech Insider we explore what each icon does, and also how to quickly access your audio controls from your control panel.

Take a look and enjoy!

Free Yourself From Photos Storage

Let go, Let Google...Photos

Yes, while iCloud is convenient for sharing your photo library between iDevices and making sure that you have things automatically backed up. It's a bit of a challenge to delete a photo from your phone, without it also being deleted from iCloud.

Well the solution is easy -- Google Photos automatically syncs with your iDevice Library: uploading pictures to the cloud, so that you can delete the original and free up some more space on your iPhone or iPad. Google Photos isn't the only one that does this, if you are an Amazon Prime user: Prime Photos is an alternative solution. And there is always setting up your Dropbox to auto sync with your iPhone Library as well.

Needless to say -- get the originals off your Phone. There is little to no time we are left without Wifi or LTE that we won't be able to pull them from a cloud based storage solution.

Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce #Techtrends2017

What does 2017 have in store for technology?

With the new year quickly approaching it's that time to start making predictions for what's going to happen next in the technology landscape.

On Thursday, December 9th, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel of tech pros from Chicago to talk turkey. The panel included:

  • Terri Brax, Founder & CEO, Women Tech Founders
  • Emile Cambry Jr., Founder & CEO, Blue 1647
  • Jeff Hirsch, Head of Technology for Advisor and Asset Management Products, Morningstar
  • Ted Souder, Head of Industry, Googl

What were the predictions:

Augmented Reality

  • Location based apps are going to continue to gain traction, and offer geographic assistance: i.e. passing a best buy, and having an app reminder go off that you need batteries.
  • Products that will continue to help healthcare: i.e. support for patients with Alzheimer's who can use a pill box that helps remind them to take medication.

Data

  • Data isn't going anywhere. The more data that can be tracked the more information we have.
  • There will be an increase in tools to help manage and manipulate that data.

Mobility

  • Mobile is the way to go. There continues to be growth in shopping via mobile device, and that is going to continue to grow.

Healthcare

  • 3D printing will continue to shape the landscape of healthcare, especially in the training tools and devices.
  • Augmented reality enhancements will continue to increase mobility in healthcare

Education

  • With technology becoming more cost effective, it is not out of the question to begin to integrate technology into a classroom level, specifically in low income areas.
  • Advances in robotics and an interest in coding will continue to filter down into lower levels of education, creating a more "tech-versed" generation.
